How Games are Assigned

Game assignments will vary by division:

  • Instructional and Passers: the referee coordinator will CALL you during the week to determine your availability! Your games will be assigned during that phone call with the referee coordinator for that week! Make sure you show up to the fields AT LEAST 15 minutes before the game with proper equipment!
  • Wings, Strikers, Kickers, and Minors/Seniors: for Fall 2020 you will need to contact the referee coordinator directly. We will NOT be having a Sign Up Genius this season!
  1. The referee coordinator will communicate with you--through text or Email--a Sign Up Genius link for the week (or several weeks) in advance of game day! The sign up will include the division and all games for that division!
  2. You need to sign up on Sign Up Genius (requires name and a valid e-mail address)! We strongly encourage you only sign up for 2 or 3 games to start to help ensure all referees have the chance to officiate! On the day before game-day, you can sign up for an unlimited amount of games--if they are still available!
  3. Before you sign up, please make sure your name is visible (not your parents name!) and that your email is correct!
  4. On game-day, make sure you arrive AT LEAST 15 minutes before the game with proper equipment!

Please contact Erin Kelley if you have questions about referee assignments!

How referees get paid!

The Home Coach is responsible for providing the referee(s) with the game card (with game information included) and money for the referee.

  • Instructional: $10 per referee
  • Passers: $15 per referee
  • Wings: $20 per referee
  • Strikers: $25 per referee
  • Kickers: $30 per referee
  • Minors/Seniors: $35 per game

Notes:
  • At Mason SAY, there are 2 referees assigned to each game--the majority of the time! If one of the two referees doesn't attend, the one present referee receives ALL money (double the amount)! If both referees are not present, please call the referee coordinator immediately!
  • Referees are NOT required to pass the referee test to officiate Instructional games, but are required to attend the class once a year!
  • Kickers and Minors/Seniors games are typically reserved for Adult Referees (we are always in need of adult referees)!
  • Most referees will start at Passers or Wings--if they take the referee test and attend training--and move up depending on the referee coordinator!
